Our company`s Data Science Team is looking for an exceptional experienced Senior Machine Learning Engineer to help lead the design and implementation of next generation systems to help our users discover, iterate, and execute on their travel plans. Our team is focused on recommendation, personalization, explanation, and enhanced user interaction across multiple business verticals including Experiences, Accommodations, and Restaurants. As a Machine Learning Engineer working in this space, you will have the opportunity to apply your modeling and engineering skills to a number of different areas, with a particular focus on recommendations, generative AI, NLP, and system design.
Project is the web’s leading travel information site. At company, the Data Science and ML Team creates systems that influence the travel decisions of millions of people per day. It applies cutting edge machine learning techniques to a wide variety of areas, including recommenders, computer vision, and natural language processing. This position requires work hours alignment with UK/Lisbon time zone
What you will do:
- Seek out new opportunities to apply data science and machine learning to the business (e.g., personalized recommendations, NLP, customer modeling) across all channels (e.g., Web, email, paid marketing)
- Work with other teams in solving problems and identifying opportunities
- Lead the design of machine learning models to solve a variety of core business problems in customer acquisition, retention, and reactivation
- Automate ETL pipelines
- Prototype, evaluate, deploy and maintain new models in production
- Design AB tests and analyze their results
- Discover new ways to analyze and interpret the data
- Communicate progress and interpretation of experimental results to technical and business stakeholders
- Lead the determination of next steps for each project
Who You Are:
- PhD or Masters in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related field preferred
- At least 3 years of relevant, practical experience
- Strong software engineering skills
- Experience with Natural Language Processing
- Experience with LLM prompt engineering
- Strong background in machine learning and statistics
- Strong background in machine learning and statistics
- Solid foundation on data structures and algorithms
- Proficiency in Python for numerical/statistical programming (our group relies heavily on Pandas/Numpy/Scikit-learn/PyTorch)
- Ability to write complex SQL queries
- Experience with big data technologies, such as Snowflake and Spark
- Knowledge of AB test design and analysis
- Track record of leading the deployment and maintenance of models
Nice to Haves:
- Exposure to LLM offerings from various vendors (ChatGPT, LLama, PaLM…)
- Experience with online businesses
- Experience with Recommender Systems

Our team is building out a next generation Machine Learning Platform for all data scientists and machine learning engineers across all of Company’s brands. Our mission is to empower data scientists to work independently and scale their productivity to enable broader and deeper utilization of machine learning techniques to help improve the business performance. Company hosts over 400 million monthly active visitors and operates across multiple cloud environments. Our data is at the petabyte scale, requiring a scalable, efficient, and reliable machine learning platform to support it.
We are seeking a talented, experienced, Senior Software Engineer to pave the way towards revolutionizing how we leverage data and Machine Learning!
We leverage Kubernetes and a variety of open source software (e.g. Kubeflow, Seldon, Istio, Mlflow) to train and deploy over one hundred models serving a billion requests per day.
What you will do:
- Develop across our evolving technology stack - we’re using Python, Java, Kubernetes, Apache Spark, Postgres, Redis, ArgoCD, Argo Workflow, Seldon, MLFlow and more. We are migrating into AWS cloud and adopting many services that are available in that environment.
- You will have the opportunity to learn many cutting edge technologies around Machine Learning Platform. You will push the boundaries, to test, develop and implement new ideas, technology and opportunities, and be well rewarded and recognized for doing so
- Take responsibility for all aspects of software engineering, from design to implementation, QA, maintenance, and support
- Touch code at every level – from the UI, backend microservices, database, big data processing, operations, to CD/CI automation
- Collaborate closely with data science teams to define requirements, discuss solutions, and develop high quality deliverables for our customers
Who You Are:
- Computer Science degree or equivalent experience
- At least 5 years’ experience of commercial software development.
- Willingness and ability to take on new projects and technologies
- Ability to break down complex problems into simple solutions
- Strong analytical skills and desire to write clean, correct and efficient code
- Sense of ownership, urgency and pride in your work.
- Experience with Python
- Experience with Java, Docker, Kubernetes, Argo, Spark and AWS cloud services are plus.
- Exposure to Machine Learning practices is a plus
