Java Developer

Our project, the world’s largest travel guidance platform, helps hundreds of millions of people each month become better travelers, from planning to booking to taking a trip. Travelers across the globe use the our site and app to discover where to stay, what to do and where to eat based on guidance from those who have been there before. With more than 1 billion reviews and opinions of nearly 8 million businesses, travelers turn to our project to find deals on accommodations, book experiences, reserve tables at delicious restaurants and discover great places nearby. As a travel guidance company available in 43 markets and 22 languages, our project makes planning easy no matter the trip type.

 

Let's talk about You:

  • 4+ years of experience with Java
  • 2+ years of large scale, full life cycle development experience
  • Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and OO design
  • Experience with backend web development in Java. The team develops with Java, Tomcat, Linux, PostgreSQL, Hadoop, Hive, Presto, Snowflake and Git
  • Familiarity with frontend web development, JavaScript/React, and GraphQL is a plus
  • Excellent English language written and verbal skills and the ability to make progress on work independently
  • The desire to move quickly, and an understanding that done is often a better option than perfect

Your area of responsibility and growth:

  • Design and implement the technical solutions for projects
  • Work closely with our product and design teams to define feature specifications
  • Be responsible for the quality of code you ship
  • Actively provide feedback on best practices and design patterns to your peers in the form of design reviews and code reviews
  • Participate in sprint planning, estimation sessions, and retrospectives to provide valuable feedback on the way the team is operating and how it could improve over time
  • Develop, deploy and maintain implementations of owner and consumer-facing features
  • Be responsible for all aspects of software engineering, from design to implementation, QA, operations and maintenance
  • Be a self-starter, investigating on your own, and reaching out to others to answer questions and make progress on your projects
